Paralegal work from home can be a telecommuting arrangement with the employer or as a freelancer or entrepreneur. A telecommuter may still report to the company office from time to time and gets work assignments from there. The telecommuting paralegal still gets the salary and benefits of a regular employee while working at home. Depending on the arrangement, the employee may shoulder the cost of the equipment, internet connection and power or they can be provided partially or fully by the company.
On the other hand, a freelancing paralegal is responsible for all costs of doing the job as well as for looking for paralegal jobs. If necessary, freelancing paralegals advertise for and negotiate with customers for possible jobs. If they can’t get clients, then they have no work. However, freelancing paralegals can set the prices for their services and they have more opportunities to earn more that the telecommuting paralegals. They can also choose the jobs they want to do.
